April Update

Wow, it's been rollercoaster month for the Lovedays. We've made it through to the top 40 of the Storm The Charts campaign, had a fun photo session with the magic lens of Phil Dillon, confirmed for the Lounge On The Farm festival and had the new album showcased on BBC radio, Heart FM and beyond.
Keep an eye on the website as there is more news on the way.

It's a big Lovedays weekend, The Sweeps festival in Rochester tonight and the Babylon live lounge in Maidstone on Sunday. Hope to see you there.

Round Two - Storm The Charts

Few, that was fun!

I'd like to thank everyone who threw themselves into the Storm The Charts round two, I know many of you were busy emailing, forum posting, facebooking & tweeting right up until midnight last night.
We have an amazing following of friends and we appreciate all your hard work.

There has been some question from other bands how we made so many votes, let me explain how we did it.

For nearly two years The Lovedays have played as many gigs as possible usually for no money, all over the UK and beyond. We've turned up at jam nights wherever possible, to perform a couple of songs, hustled into festivals, supported local initiatives like the fabulous Medway Eyes, encouraged new talent The Soundcasters & Scott Brunger, hassled radio stations, A&R departments and every unsigned band organisation you can think of. We've recorded two self funded albums and an EP which we have self promoted tirelessly. We've spent hundreds of hours building up a web presence, mailing lists, and contacting venues, promoters and punters.
Out of all the many people who we've played to, worked for, plagued, assisted and thrown ourseves at;-

Some of them voted.

It's as easy as that.

So other detractors, instead of worrying about how many votes we achieved, maybe the question should be "how can I get some more?"

Onwards and upwards to round 3, the hard work has only just begun.

Vote Lovedays to Storm The Charts

I know many of you have already voted and shared this link, thank you so much to each and everyone of you.

You can vote for The Lovedays here

Storm the Charts is an attempt to get an unsigned artist to Number 1.
At a time where it is getting more and more difficult to be heard by the music industry, this is an opportunity to give an artist a chance to get the recognition they deserve and for you, the listeners, to send a warning shot to record companies who are stuck in a cycle of crying over file-sharing, rather than address the short comings of their ability to run a business.

This isn't something I'm saying lightly either, my brief flirtings with the industry have shown an inefficiancy that would make local councils blush.

Neither is this something new, debate has gone on for the past 48 years as to whether DECCA were right to not sign The Beatles, but the true arogance lays in a sentance of the now infamous rejection letter- "guitar groups are on the way out".
Oh how the major labels sniggered and shook their heads when new comers Island Records signed an unknown reggae artist, "It will never sell". Bob Marley's album Legend remains the best selling reggae album of all time.
It could be said that each of these labels underestimated thier respective artist, but equally, I would argue they have underestimated the talent for listening.
Think of the most famous number one record of all time, c'mon, you know the one, it heads up all those lists on TV & magazines that do the 100 best Number 1's of all time and we get to revel in Kate Thornton's opinion on music. It wasn't just through DJ Kenny Everett's championing of the song that got a reluctant EMI to release it, the reaction from the listeners gave us 9 weeks of Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of the charts.

I can't stress enough how vital listeners, gig goers & record buyers are to what we do. But at the risk of upsetting a few Zen masters, maybe it's in the answer to this ancient question.

Q- If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

A- It doesn't matter.

Enjoy discovering some new music, and if you like what we do, you have the power!

Much Love,

Paul

Babylon Live - Easter Sunday

A quick look at the history books sees some big names who came to perform in Maidstone:- Adam Faith, Billy Fury, Cilla Black, The Herd, Traffic, The Tremeloes, even The Who.
Whilst current big artists are banished to de-humanising stadia & Festivals sponsered by credit card companies, the County Town has yet again been given an opportunity to create a vibrant medium sized music venue to complement the established live scene in pubs, Pizza Express & Hazlit Theatre.
Over the years many attempts have been made to do this, Trader Jacks which morphed into The Union bar to name just one. There are lots of boring and contrasting theories as to why these places come and go, most obvious are multiple-channel TV, the Internet & escalating drink prices, all conspiring to keep us on our sofas.
The Babylon Live Bar is one which I hope can beat the form book, the staff are friendly, musicians & punters are made to feel welcome and there is a real vibe in this venue that something special is possible.
We played our hearts out to a packed crowd there on Sunday and have been invited back to headline on the 2nd May. Thank you to everyone who came & supported us. Extra big Kudos to Phil Dillon for capturing us at this event.
It would be great if we could get behind this venue and have something to be proud of in Maidstone & make it somewhere that everyone wants to perform.
WHO knows, just maybe.......
